Capitalize: -The first word in a sentence -The first, last, and important words in titles -Proper nouns-Specific person, place or thing
Always capitalize the first word after a period Ex: I like dogs. They are the best.
Titles ex: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire-correct Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire incorrect
-Natural landmarks and man-made landmarks are capitalised -Ex-Mount Everest
-The Planets are capitalised.
-Days of the week and months of the year are also capitalised.
-Streets and roads are capitalised.
-Religions and nationalities are also capitalised.
Seasons of the year are not capitalized -This was the hottest summer ever. But specific seasonal events are capitalized. An example is Summer Music Festival
Compass points Directions are not capitalized. With the exception of a specific location. -I am driving south for the winter. -I’m going to the South Pole
Proper Nouns Some words use capitalization depending on the context -Father taught me to swim -every boy needs a father.
Capitalised: Historical episodes Ex: The American Revolutionary War.
Institutions Ex: American school of Asucnion.
School subjects Generic subjects such as math science and history are NOT capitalized, with the exception of language classes. Es: English, Spanish. When is an specific course title, it is capitalised Ex: Language Arts.
Why did I chose to write about capitalisation? -I often have problems with capitalization, so I though it would be useful for me to research the subject and learn more about it. Too many people don’t know how to use capitalization, and I think this document would be helpful.I learned a lot in the process.
